11 December 2016 &#8211; New Smyrna Beach &#8211; Titusville, Florida<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-996 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee-3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"manatee-3\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee-3-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee-3-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee-3-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Today brings us to one of Christina\u2019s favorite sections of the ICW because we pass through several manatee zones.\u00a0 Manatee zones are good for two reasons, the first being the obvious of seeing manatees, (and dolphins), and secondly because power boats are required to also slow down and make no wake in the zones.\u00a0 This made for a very peaceful day on the water.\u00a0 Bob on the other hand doesn\u2019t care for this section because it seems long, straight and shallow with\u00a0small fishing boats always seeming to be where we need to go.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-997 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"manatee1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee1-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Manatees are similar to Dugongs in Australia and are large slow moving mammals that swim just below the surface.\u00a0 They are a protected species in Florida having neared extinction by 1973 due to injury and fatality caused by boat propellers.\u00a0 Due to their protection status they now number over 10,000, and are a joy to see. \u00a0We usually see them as they flip their tail and go under water, but one was a delight to watch swimming &#8220;doggy style&#8221; with his head above the water.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-998 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"manatee2\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee2-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee2-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/manatee2-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you think catching a photograph of a dolphin is hard, you should try the manatee.\u00a0 Many attempts were made but with little success. \u00a0The blurs in these photos are manatees &#8211; trust us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/dolphin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-999 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/dolphin-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"dolphin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/dolphin-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/dolphin.jpg 474w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>We arrived at Titusville Municipal Marina a few hours ahead of schedule due to our early morning, pre-dawn departure and favorable currents.\u00a0 We tied up with little drama, having to do a 4 point tie to a fixed dock slip which takes a bit more effort than those preferred nice long floating docks we are getting accustomed to. \u00a0Dolphins frequently were seen in the marina, but this is the only one who was willing to be seen while a camera was in hand.<\/p>\n<p>Tiki bar here we come.<\/p>\n<p><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-995 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030184-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030184\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030184-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030184-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030184-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Due to forecasted winds we planned a two night stay in Titusville.\u00a0 We were quite thankful we had made the decision when we woke on Friday to rocking and rolling whilst tied to the dock.\u00a0 There were whitecaps on the Waterway and it was downright cool.\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-994 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030182-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030182\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030182-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030182-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1030182-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The wind forecast changed again and now it looks like similar conditions can be expected the next two days.\u00a0 Our two night stay quickly became 4 \u2014 more phone calls and changes to marina reservations, but also more comfortable conditions for our last two segments of the trip.<br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>8 &#8211;
