{"id":889,"date":"2016-11-12T18:17:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-12T18:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=889"},"modified":"2016-11-12T18:40:21","modified_gmt":"2016-11-12T18:40:21","slug":"a-sail-decides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=889","title":{"rendered":"A Sail Decides&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>7 November 2016 &#8211; Dowry Creek to River Dunes\/Grace Harbor, NC<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-890 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030089-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030089\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030089-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030089-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030089-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We woke to another beautiful sunrise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-891 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030090-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030090\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030090-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030090-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030090-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Our exit from the\u00a0slip was definitely not pretty, with the wind pushing us around a bit we played bumper cars with a few different pilings. \u00a0But we did get out and did no damage.<\/p>\n<p>It was a cold clear day with a brisk 10 &#8211; 15 knot wind blowing on the beam or from astern and some choppy water.<\/p>\n<p>We were headed to River Dunes Marina in Grace Harbor but weren\u2019t sure if we wanted to stay for one or two nights \u2014 we would ponder and make the decision as we travel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-892 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030091-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030091\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030091-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030091-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030091-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We rolled out the staysail for some motorsailing.\u00a0 After a jibe, (when the sail swings to the other side of the boat) we notice the sail looking a bit funny.\u00a0 From the cockpit it takes a while to notice a thread is attached to the starboard pulpit stanchion running to the sail now on the port side of the boat.<\/p>\n<p>Bob moved forward to investigate and found the thread to have gotten caught on a cotter ring on the life line where it attaches to the stanchion and endeavored to free it.\u00a0 Without his knife in hand, Bob had to cut the thread from both ends with his teeth to free it.<\/p>\n<p>Just like with a loose thread on a piece of clothing, when this thread got caught and pulled, it unraveled part of the hem of the foot of the sail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-893 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030095-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1030095\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030095-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030095-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1030095-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Looks like we will have a sewing project in our future. \u00a0Guess the staysail made the decision for us &#8211; we will stay two nights at River Dunes &#8211; nice that we have BOGO coupon.<\/p>\n<p>The choppy water made for a bouncy rolly afternoon as we turned toward the creek to the marina.\u00a0 But we arrived safe and sound and planned our repairs for the next day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>7 November 2016 &#8211; Dowry Creek to River Dunes\/Grace Harbor, NC \u00a0 \u00a0We woke to another beautiful sunrise.
