{"id":732,"date":"2016-06-30T18:41:07","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T18:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=732"},"modified":"2016-06-30T18:41:07","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T18:41:07","slug":"up-up-and-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=732","title":{"rendered":"Up, up and away&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>29 May 2016 &#8212; Being a Good Neighbor<\/p>\n<p>Sailors are often times found helping each other out. \u00a0Every boater&#8217;s problem shared is another boater&#8217;s learning opportunity as well.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbors across our dock have an inmast furling system for their main sail. \u00a0Most people like these because of the ease of raising and lowering their sail. \u00a0The sail furls (or rolls) in and out of the mast.<\/p>\n<p>(We have a more traditional system where the sail rises and lowers from the boom and has to be tied up and secured each time.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/P1020860.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-734 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/P1020860-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"P1020860\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/P1020860-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/P1020860-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/P1020860-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Today, our neighbors were having problems with their sail and it had gotten stuck in the mast and wouldn&#8217;t go out or in. \u00a0Bob volunteered to go up the mast to try to free the sail. \u00a0This entails him sitting in a bosun&#8217;s chair and attaching it to the halyard, and having folks below hoist him up the mast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0230-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-738 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0230-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0230\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0230-1-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0230-1-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Three or more men stayed down below on the boat and assisted in raising and lowering Bob while also trying to pull the sail out.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is a common experience to have someone\u00a0go up the mast at times\u00a0for maintenance and repairs, the dock had wives watching, all glad it wasn&#8217;t their husband up the mast.<\/p>\n<p>Bob\u00a0was able to free the sail, and they tried again to raise it up and down, and again it got stuck&#8230;.And again&#8230;. Bob ended up going up their mast 3 times today. \u00a0 Although there are no photos to prove it, he did end up going all the way to the top of the mast for the last effort.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0231.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-737 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0231-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0231\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0231-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_0231-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>It was questionable as to who had the worst job, Bob or the guys down below physically getting tired having to hoist him up three times. \u00a0By the end, they finally borrowed another neighbor&#8217;s battery operated portable device that basically powers the winch so no manual pulling is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Bob\u00a0says the view was great from up there. \u00a0And yes, a cold beer was waiting for him down below once the project was complete.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>29 May 2016 &#8212; Being a Good Neighbor Sailors are often times found helping each other out. \u00a0Every boater&#8217;s problem shared is another boater&#8217;s learning opportunity as well.
