{"id":464,"date":"2016-01-13T18:10:43","date_gmt":"2016-01-13T18:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=464"},"modified":"2016-01-13T18:10:43","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T18:10:43","slug":"the-outboard-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=464","title":{"rendered":"The Outboard Battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>31 December 2015<\/p>\n<p>We started thinking about moving further south to Vero Beach, Florida at the end of January. \u00a0We hear that Vero Beach is very welcoming and is quite a popular place for cruisers.<\/p>\n<p>There are two options for staying at Vero Beach city marina, tying up in a slip or the much more economical option of tying up to a morning ball. \u00a0If we decide to live on a mooring ball for a while we knew we would have\u00a0to be sure the dinghy and outboard were ready as this would be our means of transport\u00a0for going ashore\u00a0for provisions, laundry, water, etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0171.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-465 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0171-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0171\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0171-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0171-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Bob took on the challenge and we lowered the dinghy to the water, and attached the very old 2 stroke outboard. \u00a0Bob didn&#8217;t have a lot of hope of the engine actually starting and we were amazed when it started up easily on the second pull. \u00a0Woo hoo!!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0172.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-466 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0172-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0172\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0172-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0172-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>But the celebration was short lived as the engine cut out, and after several attempts, a sore arm from pulling, and taking the cowling off to check out the engine&#8217;s components the engine would not start again.<\/p>\n<p>Those that have chartered with us in the past know that dinghy engines and Bob have an intense love\/hate relationship. \u00a0Recognizing that there is probably a simple fix (water in the fuel line?) we have decided that for the sake of peace of mind and Bob&#8217;s sanity a brand new, cleaner burning, more reliable outboard (with a warranty) is in our future.<\/p>\n<p>Outboard 1 &#8211; Bob 0&#8230;.for now.<\/p>\n<p><em>{Update: \u00a012 January, 2016 &#8211; new 6HP 4 stroke Yamaha outboard has been ordered. \u00a0Here&#8217;s hoping happy\u00a0dinghy-ing is in our future.}<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>31 December 2015 We started thinking about moving further south to Vero Beach, Florida at the end of January. \u00a0We hear that Vero Beach is very welcoming and is quite a popular place for cruisers.
