{"id":320,"date":"2015-12-01T14:28:55","date_gmt":"2015-12-01T14:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=320"},"modified":"2015-12-01T14:28:55","modified_gmt":"2015-12-01T14:28:55","slug":"a-beautiful-day-at-the-helm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=320","title":{"rendered":"A beautiful day at the helm&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday 27 November\u00a0<br class=\"\" \/>Beaufort to Hilton Head<\/p>\n<p>Bob enjoyed what he said was the easiest day of navigation on this trip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-326 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Parris Island\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>We passed by Parris Island where Bob\u00a0spent (can&#8217;t say he really enjoyed) \u00a03 months for boot camp when he started with the US Marines Corp.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-325 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Parris Island 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-2-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Parris-Island-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Sandy-beach.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-327 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Sandy-beach-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Sandy beach\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Sandy-beach-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Sandy-beach-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We saw sandy beaches &#8211; but not with palm trees yet&#8230;but a precursor of sights to come.<\/p>\n<p>When Bob made the comment that this was the easiest day at the helm so far that was a until we had to make the 90 degree turn to approach the Marina. \u00a0<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>He knew there was a strong current as we had been taking advantage of it\u00a0maintaining a speed of over 8 mph with the throttle pulled back. \u00a0He had to make the left turn to enter Harbor Town Marina in Hilton Head, South Carolina and this meant the current would be pushing us sideways.<\/p>\n<p>As he\u00a0made the turn we did the crab walk between the markers, with the boat at a 45 degree angle, in order to move in a straight line through the \u00a0channel. \u00a0All \u00a0this was done while having to avoid a trawler on our port side and doing whatever was necessary to ensure we would\u00a0not be swept up into the pilings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Hilton-Head.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-324 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Hilton-Head-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Hilton Head\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Hilton-Head-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Hilton-Head-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Bob did a great job maneuvering and \u00a0we safely entered the Marina and its very sheltered water.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>Bob easily backed the boat down the fairway and into the slip where we were greeted by a dockhand and a free bottle of wine&#8230;.
