{"id":239,"date":"2015-11-15T11:10:17","date_gmt":"2015-11-15T11:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=239"},"modified":"2015-11-15T11:10:17","modified_gmt":"2015-11-15T11:10:17","slug":"goodbye-north-carolina-hello-south-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/?p=239","title":{"rendered":"Goodbye North Carolina &#8211; Hello South Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; 14 November<\/p>\n<p>Southport was a lovely stop along the way.<\/p>\n<p>We planned to leave\u00a0the marina a little later than usual as we tried to time our travels with the tides and currents. \u00a0But we were ready to go by 0730, and off we went.<\/p>\n<p>A cold spell has made its presence known, and layers were worn as were shoes and socks! \u00a0(We are looking forward to putting the fleece and shoes away soon!)<\/p>\n<p>Today was a pretty uneventful day, but very relaxing as there were no bridges to schedule around, and very few shoaling areas to navigate around. \u00a0But each of the four inlets we passed through were more challenging than expected with whitecaps on one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Slide-in-the-water-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-243 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Slide-in-the-water-cropped-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"Slide in the water cropped\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Slide-in-the-water-cropped-300x181.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Slide-in-the-water-cropped-1024x618.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Slide-in-the-water-cropped.jpg 1359w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>We passed by beautiful homes, many with private docks for small power boats. \u00a0This particular house created their own waterpark with slide into the water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Unwanted-landmark.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-242 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Unwanted-landmark-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Unwanted landmark\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Unwanted-landmark-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dreamtime-sailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Unwanted-landmark-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Today&#8217;s landmark of distinction was this half sunken boat, still tied to the dock. \u00a0Reportedly, it has been like this for years making us wonder what really happened to it and why someone hasn&#8217;t cleared it out. \u00a0It is not really a hazard to traffic on the waterway, but still something to avoid so we don&#8217;t have a similar fate.<\/p>\n<p>The narrowness of the &#8220;ditch&#8221; is becoming commonplace and easy enough to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>The marina we chose for the night is literally right on the ICW, so even with a strong current we were able to pull up alongside the dock easily. \u00a0The marina is small, but the restaurant looks to be top notch and we will plan to be enjoying happy hour libations and good food before retiring for the evening.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; 14 November Southport was a lovely stop along the way.
